Unprotected Heart

I failed her miserably
To protect one heart I loved.
Naïve and prideful I
Couldn’t see the hurt I was causing.

I lost a beautiful jewel to forever
its kind never to be seen again.
I failed to protect her heart.

I was not a bad man, just finding my way
through this universe,
No guide book, no manual,
My words grew tiny to her.

And while she forgave me,
she could never forget the hurt,
My failure to protect her heart.

I do not blame her
I hold no ill will
How could I when she was everything,
everything.
